Hereditary hemochromatosis in practice

Summary

Hereditary hemochromatosis is a disease in which iron accumulates excessively in the body and it is one of the most common congenital metabolic diseases. The case report presents a patient from practice with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding, with increased serum iron and ferritin values, without elevation in bilirubin, transaminases or obstructive liver tests, in whom further examination revealed genetic hemochromatosis.
